Kitchens

Many homeowners get anxious when it comes to kitchens & plumbing. The thought of flooded kitchen grounds with water as high as two feet is unbearable to them. It suddenly seems like the only option is to hire a plumber. Not necessarily, however.

It was the same belief with moving a kitchen sink, installing a faucet, or connecting to copper pipes, but these don’t always have to be difficult.

How Difficult Are These Projects?

One can quickly complete basic and intermediary projects within an hour using simple tools. Other projects may be more difficult, requiring around two hours using simple tools in addition to a few plumbing specialty tools.

For the bigger DIY kitchen remodel, you may require a few days day in addition to purchasing some extra plumbing tools. And then there are some DIY kitchens which can take between one or two days. You also need to build in time so as to get familiar with the procedures.

Moving Your Kitchen Sink

As long as the relocated sink is within the reach of the drain and supply lines, this job is quite simple. Else, it may involve relocating those lines before the sink can be moved, making it harder.

Kitchen Faucet Replacement

Getting underneath the base of the sink is the most difficult part of replacing or installing a kitchen faucet. To help with this, construct a platform from the floor of the kitchen to the sink base cabinet level so as not to get cut by the cabinet edges. Anything can serve as your platform, including pieces of rigid foam insulation or scrap lumber.

Garbage Disposal Installation

Garbage disposal jobs were supposed to be do-it-yourself tasks. And even though you can always get it done by a plumber, it is really very easy to just do yourself. Lifting the disposal is actually the most difficult part.

Installing a Dishwasher

Installation of a dishwasher is no more of a plumbing project than a session of fitting a wire and hoses into a constricted space. Installation of single dishwashers is definitely a do-it-yourself task. Simply have a lot of dry towels available to mop up any spills.

Connecting a Pipe to an Existing Copper Pipe

Copper pipe can very easily be connected to PEX (or another copper) using special snap-fit connectors which require absolutely no soldering. All you need do is shove the pipe properly into the connector.

Running Pipe through Walls

It is not so easy to run pipe through your walls, but still not as difficult as it may seem. For this project, you will need PEX pipes which cut, bend, and connect easily. Once the kitchen wall is open, pipes easily slide through holes into the studs. However, the greater part of this project falls under drywall work.
